12:30 p.m. update

The I-84 corridor in Eastern Oregon, from Pendleton to Ontario, is closed due to unpredictable fire activity.

There is no estimate for when this or any other fire-impacted highways in eastern Oregon will reopen.

Travelers should be prepared for additional I-84 closures and are advised not to rely on this route. If you need to travel east or west through central and eastern Oregon, it is recommended to use U.S. 20 instead.

Original story

I-84 has been reopened in Eastern Oregon.

The Durkee Fire, now the largest fire in the U.S., has been burning for over a week in Eastern Oregon. Fire managers report the fire has grown to more than 244,000 acres and has caused multiple evacuations.

The Oregon Department of Transportation reports that while the highway has reopened, be prepared for more closures. Thunderstorms and high winds are expected throughout the region on Wednesday, threatening to make fire conditions even more erratic.
